This week in our Interview Series we're sitting down with Juliana and Jody, the founders of the effortless resort-luxe brand Cobalt and Tawny. Hailing from Brazil and Canada, their global-inspired collections feature travel-ready designs with a down-to-earth vibe. By drawing inspiration and establishing relationships everywhere from Hawaii to Bali to New York City, they've created a truly international brand. We are Cobalt and Tawny, a boho-luxe resort label with a global flair. Our mission is to mix a sense of everyday luxury with a travel-inspired down-to-earth vibe to create styles that go beyond resort wear. Whether you have beach sand between your toes or city sidewalks under your feet, Cobalt and Tawny will add a touch of paradise to your day. Cobalt and Tawny is the labor of love of Juliana, a Brazilian living on Maui and Jody, a true Canadian, living in Vancouver. We work with manufacturers in Bali, collaborate with artists in NYC and build on our Canadian and Brazilian backgrounds to create a truly international brand. Our name refers to Jody’s big blue eyes (Cobalt) and Juliana’s rich chocolate brown eyes (Tawny). The way those shades of blue and brown complement each other is what Cobalt and Tawny is all about. It’s about bringing together our strengths to create something bigger than ourselves and it’s about chance meetings becoming lifelong friendships and creative partnerships.

We both were in the industry and were introduced by a mutual friend on Maui. We were both passionate about creating a line together outside of our own brands. Over a green juice at Whole Foods, Cobalt and Tawny began!

All of our pieces scream either beach or après beach - not to mention transform well into the night for sunsets and cocktails. For example, our Agave Dress can also be worn as a duster or the Georgia Romper worn over your bathing suit as a cover up. Our Turbinado dresses look great with a knot tied at the bottom for more of a casual look. Beach, city, sunsets – take your pick!

Our mantra is “effortless style for wanderlusters” and this really bodes true because everyday life is hectic enough, your wardrobe shouldn’t be. Traveling light is easy with Cobalt and Tawny pieces in your suitcase.

We are very keen on a pop of color with our pieces. Earrings are a staple piece and add that finished touch. We also love the layering look of necklaces these days. The possibilities are endless with jewelry.

We really love the Wild Heart Feather earrings in gold because, well, who doesn’t love feathers? The Beachcomber Hoop in Gold Stone Color would be a hit with a lot of our colors and prints at the moment. Hard to pick one necklace because of the uniqueness of them but the Gold Dawn Layered necklace is gorge and it’s like having three necklaces in one, so hey, it’s a no-brainer.

We believe Hibiscus Pantone will be a hot choice for fall and can’t wait to share our second collection with you all. We are off to Bali to shoot the new collection that will be launching in August. It’s going to be a show stopper for sure, so stay tuned!

One of our favorite styling tips is knotting things, seriously just throw a knot in the bottom of either our Turbinado Dress or tank and it gives it a completely different look. We also love headbands and scarves and will be introducing some new ideas in our second collection.
